At Friends & Family Spinal Care, pediatric care is built around NUCCA chiropractic: a precise, light-touch approach designed specifically for infants, toddlers, and children. Rather than twisting or cracking, NUCCA focuses on correcting the upper cervical spine to address the root cause of many childhood concerns.

As the only NUCCA-certified practice in South Florida, the clinic serves families throughout Pembroke Pines seeking answers beyond traditional care. Led by Dr. Justin Brown, who brings more than 15 years of experience and has trained NUCCA doctors nationwide, the practice delivers an elite level of gentle, corrective care to families in Broward County.

Understanding Pediatric Health Challenges in Pembroke Pines

Pembroke Pines is a vibrant, family-friendly community where children thrive in excellent schools, beautiful parks like C.B. Smith Park and Chapel Trail Nature Preserve, and year-round outdoor activities. Yet despite this active, healthy lifestyle, many children struggle with recurring health issues that traditional medicine can’t always address.

What most Pembroke Pines parents don’t realize is that many childhood health challenges stem from subtle misalignments in the upper cervical spine. Birth trauma, falls during early walking stages, playground accidents, sports injuries, and even prolonged poor posture from screen time can create spinal stress that interferes with nervous system function.

How Local Factors Affect Children’s Health

Local Factor How It Affects Children’s Health
Birth at local hospitals Labor and delivery can create upper cervical misalignments
Active lifestyle (sports, parks, playgrounds) Falls and impacts are common as children grow and explore
Year-round outdoor activities Increased physical activity means more opportunities for minor injuries
Heavy backpacks Poor posture and spinal stress from carrying school materials
South Florida allergens and humidity Environmental factors can compound immune system challenges

The atlas (C1) vertebra sits at the critical junction where the skull meets the neck, surrounding the brainstem and vagus nerve. When misaligned, it interferes with the nervous system’s ability to regulate digestion, immunity, sleep, focus, and overall development.

Traditional pediatric care often treats symptoms with medications, but NUCCA chiropractic addresses the underlying structural cause.

Misaligned vs. Aligned Spine Effects

Misaligned Spine Before NUCCA Spine Aligned with NUCCA Care
Nerve interference disrupts immune function An optimal nervous system supports natural immunity
Poor sleep quality and restless nights Deep, restorative sleep patterns return
Difficulty concentrating and behavioral issues Improved focus and emotional regulation
Recurring infections and illness Stronger immune response and faster recovery
Chronic pain and discomfort Pain-free, active childhood

How NUCCA Chiropractic Helps Children in Pembroke Pines

NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) care is fundamentally different from traditional chiropractic. There’s no twisting, cracking, or forceful manipulation, techniques that frighten many children and parents alike. Instead, NUCCA uses precise, gentle corrections with minimal pressure, often described as no more than the weight of a quarter.

This light-touch approach focuses exclusively on the atlas (C1) vertebra, where even slight misalignment can create widespread effects throughout a child’s developing body. The adjustment is calculated based on advanced imaging and analysis, ensuring every correction is personalized to your child’s unique spinal structure.

NUCCA vs. Traditional Pediatric Chiropractic

Approach Traditional Chiropractic NUCCA Chiropractic
Adjustment Style High-velocity thrusts, popping, and cracking sounds Gentle fingertip pressure, no twisting or popping
Focus Area Multiple spinal regions, full-spine adjustments Upper cervical spine (atlas/C1) exclusively
Goal Symptom relief, temporary pain management Long-term correction addressing root cause
Experience for Children Can be frightening or uncomfortable So gentle children often fall asleep during adjustment
Imaging Standard X-rays or none Precise 3D analysis for personalized correction
Results May require frequent ongoing adjustments Corrections hold longer, fewer visits needed

What Makes Our Pediatric Care Different: The Friends & Family Approach

When you bring your child to Friends & Family Spinal Care, you’re choosing a practice that specializes in pediatric NUCCA care with over 15 years of experience treating infants through teenagers.

We take time to make your child feel comfortable and safe, explaining everything in language they can understand. Parents are welcome to stay with their child throughout the entire process, and we encourage questions at every step.

Our Pediatric NUCCA Process

Step What Happens
Comprehensive Consultation We discuss your child’s health history, birth experience, developmental milestones, current symptoms, and any previous treatments. We want to understand the complete picture.
Gentle Physical Assessment Using pediatric-specific techniques, we assess nervous system function, posture, muscle tone, and spinal alignment. Everything is non-invasive and comfortable for children of all ages.
Advanced Imaging (If Needed) For older children, we may use specialized low-radiation imaging to identify the exact location and degree of misalignment. Every correction is calculated and personalized.
Ultra-Gentle NUCCA Correction The adjustment uses minimal force, typically just 1-3 ounces of pressure. Most children remain completely calm, and many fall asleep during the process.
Progress Monitoring We track your child’s improvements closely and adjust the care plan as needed. Most pediatric patients need only occasional corrections as their bodies stabilize.
Parent Education We provide Pembroke Pines parents with strategies for maintaining spinal health at home, including posture tips, backpack safety, and developmental support.

Beyond Symptom Relief: Supporting Your Child’s Development

One of the most remarkable aspects of pediatric NUCCA care is how it supports not just symptom relief but optimal development. When a child’s nervous system functions without interference, their body can reach its full potential in every area.

Many Pembroke Pines families continue bringing their children for periodic NUCCA checkups throughout childhood, recognizing that maintaining proper spinal alignment supports:

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age can children receive NUCCA care?

NUCCA care is safe for children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers. We’ve successfully treated infants just days old through adolescents. The technique is so gentle that it’s appropriate even for the most delicate newborns, and we adapt our approach to each child’s age and developmental stage.

How many visits will my child need?

Every child is unique, but most show significant improvement within 3-5 visits. Because NUCCA corrections are so precise and address the root cause, they typically hold longer than traditional adjustments, meaning fewer visits overall. Many families transition to periodic checkups (every 6-12 weeks) once their child’s condition stabilizes.

What if my pediatrician hasn’t recommended chiropractic care?

Many pediatricians are unfamiliar with NUCCA’s gentle, research-backed approach to pediatric care. We’re happy to communicate with your pediatrician and provide them with information about our technique and your child’s care plan.

Can NUCCA help with my child’s specific condition?

The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation. During your visit, we’ll assess your child’s nervous system function and discuss whether NUCCA care is appropriate for their condition. We’re honest about what we can help with and will refer you elsewhere if another type of care would be more beneficial.

How far is your office from Pembroke Pines?

We’re located in Coral Springs, approximately 10-15 minutes from most Pembroke Pines neighborhoods via Pines Boulevard or University Drive. Many families from Pembroke Falls, Towngate, Silver Lakes, and throughout western Broward County make the short drive because of our specialized pediatric expertise and proven results.

You Have Been Adjusted a Hundred Times. Why Has It Never Held?

FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED A HUNDRED TIMES AND STILL HURT

Relief that lasts four days is not a correction. It is a rental. There is a structural reason your body keeps pulling back to the place that hurts, and until someone measures it, nothing changes.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Most people are aware of the pain-reducing advantages of this remarkable science. Here are other common benefits and specific conditions that we focus on at Friends & Family Spinal Care:

If You Are Reading This, You Have Probably Already Tried:

And somewhere in there, you started wondering if this is just your body now.

It is not.

The Reason Relief Keeps Expiring

Things that hold have structure.

Every treatment you have tried worked on the symptom. The muscle that was tight. The joint that was stuck. The nerve that was screaming. And each one worked, right up until your body pulled back to the position it was in before you walked in.

Because the position never changed.

You have been treated by good people who never measured your structure, because measuring it takes an instrument almost no one owns and training almost no one has. Not their fault. It just means the actual question never got asked.

You cannot correct what nobody has measured. Everything else is maintenance.

Your MRI Was Not Wrong. It Was Answering a Different Question.

An MRI is built to find disease. Tumors. Herniations. Ruptures. The things that need a surgeon.

When yours came back clean, it did its job perfectly. It told you that you do not have the thing it was designed to find.

But it was never built to measure how your head sits on top of your neck. By how many degrees. Or how that position interferes with the nerves running through it.

Different question. Different instruments. Different results.

What we measure

The One Thing Almost No One Measures

I am Dr. Justin Brown, founder of Atlinea.

Our doctors correct the alignment at the very top of your spine, and we do it with the specific precision required to return your body to the position it needs to be in to heal the way it was designed to.

That is the entire focus. Not a menu of services. One correction, measured and made properly.

Where This Actually Starts

It is called The Comprehensive. Sixty minutes, one on one with one of our doctors, and it runs in three parts.

01. We Listen

You talk. We listen. Your whole history, everything you have tried, what it has cost you, and what you have given up because of it. Not a five minute intake. An actual conversation about your specific problem.

02. We Learn

Then we measure what nobody has measured.

What is working. What is not. And why.

03. We Lead

You leave knowing the root cause, why this has never held, and exactly what correcting it would take. In plain language, with your own numbers in front of you.

Sixty minutes to finally get the answer that years of appointments never gave you.

This is what The Comprehensive actually looks like: a full structural exam, not a quick adjustment.

If We Cannot Correct It, We Will Tell You On Day One

Here is our promise.

If our doctors do not find a structural cause that we can correct, they will tell you on day one, and we will not take you on as a patient.

No treatment plan. No package. No follow up call three days later.

You leave with the truth and a direction. Not a sales pitch.

We would rather lose the patient than sell you another rental.

What It Costs To Find Out

Before You Book

Is this just a chiropractor?

Our doctors correct one specific thing: the alignment at the top of your spine. That is a narrower and more measured discipline than general adjusting, and it starts with instruments rather than hands. If you have been adjusted before and it did not hold, this is the reason we start with a measurement instead of a table.

Because sixty minutes of a doctor’s time is real, and a free appointment is an appointment people do not show up for. The $45 reserves the slot. If you come in and decide not to move forward, you get it back.

Then we tell you on day one and we do not take you on as a patient. You leave with what we measured and a direction to take it.

That depends entirely on what we find, and anyone who quotes you a timeline before measuring you is guessing. You will get a specific answer at the end of your Comprehensive, based on your own numbers.

Possibly. If your Comprehensive points to a structural cause, imaging is the next step, and your $45 is credited toward it.

Yes. We accept most PPO plans, auto/PIP insurance for accident injuries, and FSA/HSA funds, plus patient financing and direct-pay options if you’re uninsured. Call (954) 645-7272 and we’ll verify your benefits before your first visit.
