At Friends & Family Spinal Care, we specialize in NUCCA chiropractic care, an incredibly gentle, research-backed technique that addresses the root cause of infant colic through precise upper cervical adjustments.

As the only NUCCA-certified practice in South Florida, we’ve helped countless infants throughout Pembroke Pines find relief. Dr. Justin Brown, our lead NUCCA specialist, has over 15 years of experience providing gentle pediatric care and has trained dozens of NUCCA doctors nationwide, bringing elite-level expertise to families in Broward County.

Understanding Colic and Why It’s So Common

Colic affects up to 1 in 4 infants, often beginning within weeks of birth and lasting for several months. What many Pembroke Pines parents don’t realize is that colic can stem from subtle misalignments in the upper neck at birth. The combination of South Florida’s active lifestyle means parents are often carrying and positioning babies in ways that can exacerbate existing misalignments.

When the atlas (C1) vertebra shifts, it can irritate the vagus nerve (the pathway that controls digestion, muscle tone, and relaxation), keeping a baby’s nervous system on constant alert. The humid subtropical climate and year-round warmth in Pembroke Pines, while beautiful, can also contribute to increased fussiness as babies regulate their body temperature and comfort levels.

How Local Factors Affect Colicky Infants

Local Factor How It Affects Colicky Infants
Birth trauma in hospitals Can create upper cervical misalignments affecting the nervous system
Active outdoor lifestyle (parks, walks) Repeated positioning changes may aggravate existing tension
Year-round heat and humidity Can increase infant discomfort and irritability
Longer car travel times Extended time in infant car seats can place sustained strain on the upper neck
Early tummy time and carrier use Added pressure on the neck and spine may worsen existing misalignments

While remedies like gas drops or formula changes may offer brief relief, they don’t address the cause. NUCCA chiropractic care uses gentle, precise adjustments (no twisting or cracking) to restore proper alignment and calm the nervous system.

As pressure eases, digestion improves, muscles relax, and babies often sleep more peacefully within days.

Before and After NUCCA Care

Misaligned Spine Before NUCCA Care Aligned Spine After NUCCA Care
Nerve interference disrupts brain-to-body signals A calm nervous system restores clear signaling
Vagus nerve irritation affects digestion Improved digestion; less gas and reflux
Tense muscles and poor relaxation Relaxed muscles; easier settling and sleep
Long bouts of inconsolable crying Shorter crying episodes; more comfort
Parents feel stuck managing symptoms Addresses root cause for lasting relief

How NUCCA Chiropractic Helps Colicky Infants in Pembroke Pines

NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) care isn’t traditional chiropractic. There’s no twisting, cracking, or forceful movement involved. Instead, the adjustment uses light fingertip pressure behind your baby’s ear, so gentle that most infants remain calm or even sleep through it.

Many Pembroke Pines families, from Grand Palms and Spring Valley to Century Village, tell us they wish they’d known about NUCCA care sooner, after weeks of exhaustion and frustration finally gave way to calm and relief.

NUCCA vs. Traditional Chiropractic for Infants

Approach Traditional Chiropractic NUCCA Chiropractic
Adjustment Style High-velocity, manual movements that may cause popping or cracking sounds Gentle, precise corrections using light fingertip pressure
Focus Area Multiple spinal regions Upper cervical spine (atlas/C1), where the brainstem and vagus nerve connect
Goal General joint mobility and pain relief Restore proper nervous system function to address the root cause of colic
Experience for Infants May involve twisting or rotation So gentle that most babies sleep through the adjustment
Results Temporary comfort or symptom relief Calmer digestion, relaxed muscles, and improved sleep patterns

What Makes Our Colic Care Different: The Friends & Family Approach

When you bring your colicky infant to Friends & Family Spinal Care, you’re not just getting an adjustment. You’re receiving comprehensive, compassionate care from a team that truly understands what your family is going through.

Our Pediatric NUCCA Process for Colicky Infants

Step What Happens
Comprehensive Consultation We begin with a detailed discussion about your baby’s symptoms, birth experience, feeding patterns, and daily behaviors. We want to understand the full picture of your family’s experience.
Gentle Neurological Assessment Using specialized pediatric techniques, we assess your infant’s nervous system function, muscle tone, and spinal alignment. These assessments are completely non-invasive and comfortable for your baby.
Precise Analysis If indicated, we may use advanced imaging technology adapted specifically for infants to identify the exact location and degree of spinal misalignment. Every adjustment is calculated and personalized to your baby’s unique needs.
Ultra-Gentle NUCCA Correction The adjustment itself uses minimal force, equivalent to the pressure you’d use to check if a tomato is ripe. Most babies remain calm or sleep through the entire process.
Ongoing Monitoring and Support We track your baby’s progress closely and adjust the care plan as needed. Most colicky infants require only a few corrections as their bodies stabilize and their nervous systems function improves.
Parent Education We provide Pembroke Pines parents with practical guidance on positioning and home care strategies that support your baby’s healing between visits.

Conditions Beyond Colic That Respond to Gentle NUCCA Care

While many Pembroke Pines families initially bring their infants to us for colic relief, they’re often surprised to learn that NUCCA care can help with a wide range of pediatric concerns. Because our approach addresses nervous system function at its source, the benefits extend throughout your baby’s entire body.

Infant Conditions We Treat

Infant Condition How NUCCA Helps
Colic & Excessive Crying Reduces nervous system stress and improves digestive nerve function
Feeding Difficulties Improves coordination of sucking, swallowing, and breathing reflexes
Reflux & Spitting Up Optimizes vagus nerve function, controlling the digestive tract
Sleep Disturbances Helps the nervous system shift from stress mode to rest-and-digest mode
Torticollis (Head Tilt) Gently corrects spinal alignment affecting neck muscles
Ear Infections (Recurrent) Improves drainage and immune function through better nerve flow
Constipation Restores proper nerve signals controlling intestinal movement
Irritability & Fussiness Reduces overall nervous system tension and discomfort

These conditions illustrate why so many Pembroke Pines parents continue bringing their children to us well beyond the infant stage. The gentle corrections we make early in life support better overall health as your child grows.

Frequently Asked Questions

How soon after birth can my baby receive NUCCA care?

We can safely assess and treat infants within days of birth. In fact, the sooner we can address birth-related misalignments, the better the outcomes tend to be. Many Pembroke Pines families bring their newborns to us for preventive assessments even before colic symptoms develop.

How many visits will my colicky baby need?

Every infant is unique, but most colicky babies show significant improvement within 2-4 adjustments. Because NUCCA corrections are so precise and address the root cause, they tend to hold longer than traditional chiropractic adjustments, meaning fewer visits overall. We’ll create a personalized care plan based on your baby’s specific needs.

Will the adjustment hurt my baby?

Not at all. The NUCCA adjustment is so gentle that most babies sleep through it or remain completely calm. There’s no twisting, cracking, or forceful manipulation. Parents are often amazed at how subtle yet effective the technique is.

How far is your office from Pembroke Pines?

We’re located in Coral Springs, approximately 10-15 minutes from most Pembroke Pines neighborhoods via Pines Boulevard or University Drive. You Have Been Adjusted a Hundred Times. Why Has It Never Held?

FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED A HUNDRED TIMES AND STILL HURT

Relief that lasts four days is not a correction. It is a rental. There is a structural reason your body keeps pulling back to the place that hurts, and until someone measures it, nothing changes.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Most people are aware of the pain-reducing advantages of this remarkable science. Here are other common benefits and specific conditions that we focus on at Friends & Family Spinal Care:

If You Are Reading This, You Have Probably Already Tried:

And somewhere in there, you started wondering if this is just your body now.

It is not.

The Reason Relief Keeps Expiring

Things that hold have structure.

Every treatment you have tried worked on the symptom. The muscle that was tight. The joint that was stuck. The nerve that was screaming. And each one worked, right up until your body pulled back to the position it was in before you walked in.

Because the position never changed.

You have been treated by good people who never measured your structure, because measuring it takes an instrument almost no one owns and training almost no one has. Not their fault. It just means the actual question never got asked.

You cannot correct what nobody has measured. Everything else is maintenance.

Your MRI Was Not Wrong. It Was Answering a Different Question.

An MRI is built to find disease. Tumors. Herniations. Ruptures. The things that need a surgeon.

When yours came back clean, it did its job perfectly. It told you that you do not have the thing it was designed to find.

But it was never built to measure how your head sits on top of your neck. By how many degrees. Or how that position interferes with the nerves running through it.

Different question. Different instruments. Different results.

What we measure

The One Thing Almost No One Measures

I am Dr. Justin Brown, founder of Atlinea.

Our doctors correct the alignment at the very top of your spine, and we do it with the specific precision required to return your body to the position it needs to be in to heal the way it was designed to.

That is the entire focus. Not a menu of services. One correction, measured and made properly.

Where This Actually Starts

It is called The Comprehensive. Sixty minutes, one on one with one of our doctors, and it runs in three parts.

01. We Listen

You talk. We listen. Your whole history, everything you have tried, what it has cost you, and what you have given up because of it. Not a five minute intake. An actual conversation about your specific problem.

02. We Learn

Then we measure what nobody has measured.

What is working. What is not. And why.

03. We Lead

You leave knowing the root cause, why this has never held, and exactly what correcting it would take. In plain language, with your own numbers in front of you.

Sixty minutes to finally get the answer that years of appointments never gave you.

This is what The Comprehensive actually looks like: a full structural exam, not a quick adjustment.

If We Cannot Correct It, We Will Tell You On Day One

Here is our promise.

If our doctors do not find a structural cause that we can correct, they will tell you on day one, and we will not take you on as a patient.

No treatment plan. No package. No follow up call three days later.

You leave with the truth and a direction. Not a sales pitch.

We would rather lose the patient than sell you another rental.

What It Costs To Find Out

Before You Book

Is this just a chiropractor?

Our doctors correct one specific thing: the alignment at the top of your spine. That is a narrower and more measured discipline than general adjusting, and it starts with instruments rather than hands. If you have been adjusted before and it did not hold, this is the reason we start with a measurement instead of a table.

Because sixty minutes of a doctor’s time is real, and a free appointment is an appointment people do not show up for. The $45 reserves the slot. If you come in and decide not to move forward, you get it back.

Then we tell you on day one and we do not take you on as a patient. You leave with what we measured and a direction to take it.

That depends entirely on what we find, and anyone who quotes you a timeline before measuring you is guessing. You will get a specific answer at the end of your Comprehensive, based on your own numbers.

Possibly. If your Comprehensive points to a structural cause, imaging is the next step, and your $45 is credited toward it.

Yes. We accept most PPO plans, auto/PIP insurance for accident injuries, and FSA/HSA funds, plus patient financing and direct-pay options if you’re uninsured. Call (954) 645-7272 and we’ll verify your benefits before your first visit.
